Bang bang cognait le marteau
Szzzzz sciait la scie
Bvrooooo faisait la torche à souder
L’artiste était à l’oeuvre.
D’un bout de bois, il en a fait un coffre au trésor;
d’une toile, il en a fait une maison;
d’une tige d’acier, il en a fait un ancrage.
Et il m’a enseigné.
Et moi, faisant de mon mieux, je tentais de le suivre.
Pas facile de suivre un kiwi entraîné à la grosse ouvrage !
Mais vous me connaissez, il m’en faut plus pour me décourager.
Alors, armée de toute ma bonne volonté, et de mes rudiments en anglais, j’ai suivi.
Et cogné, et collé, et soudé, et coupé. Et encore, et encore.
Résultat?
Une caravane « à vendre », prête à parcourir l’Australie;
des coffres parés à recevoir leurs parures;
des boites à retenir des beautés.
Et quoi d’autre encore!
Phil et Annette, nos amis kiwis (originaires de la Nouvelle-Zélande) devenus maintenant kangourous (nommés surtout Aussies) nous ont généreusement accueilli dans leur demeure. Pour les aider, on a légèrement participé à des tâches qu’ils devaient faire avant de partir en expédition au nord du pays. Ils sont propriétaires d’une garderie.
Les enfants seront ravis de les voir arriver.

The artist was at work.
From a piece of wood he made a treasure box;
from a canvas he made a house;
from a steel rod, he made an anchor.
And he taught me.
And I, doing my best, I tried to follow him.
Not easy to follow a well working kiwi man!
But you know me, I need more than this to be discouraged. Then, armed with all my good will, and my rudiments in English, I followed. And knocked, and glued, and welded, and cut. And again, and again.
As result ?
A caravan "for sale", ready to travel in Australia;
boxes ready to receive their ornaments and beauties.
And what else!
Phil and Annette, our kiwi friends (from New Zealand) now kangaroos (especially named Aussies) generously welcomed us into their home. To help them, we slightly participated in tasks they had to do before going on an expedition to the north of the country.
They own a day care center.
The children will be delighted to see them arrive.
