Déjà un mois que nous sommes partis de Dorval!
On est, comme prévu, dans la ville de Pattaya, très grande ville thaïlandaise de bord de mer, très agréable.
Beaucoup de touristes, énormément de russes, et autres de ce coin-là (ont tous l’air de parler la même langue). Le condo où on habite m’apparaît presque rempli d’eux. D’un abord « pas très sympathiques ». À force de nous voir à tous les jours, encore hier j’ai décroché de 1ers sourires. Qui sait, peut-être que dans 4 mois, je me ferai des meilleurs amis du monde… quoique j’en doute, j’ai des préjugés tenaces…
On aime beaucoup notre condo. On se sent dans le luxe! 😆 Hormis internet qui est inégal, on est dans un confortable studio, terrasse privée, piscine, gym à l’étage. On retient l’adresse! C’est juste un peu loin des commerces. D’ailleurs, faut marcher 45 minutes pour aller dans la 1re vraie épicerie (notez qu’il y a quand même plusieurs dépanneurs tout autour, ainsi que plusieurs restos - formels et ambulants). Pour l’épicerie éloignée, c’est correct, ça nous donne un autre prétexte pour bouger. Un peu plus loin, il y a encore plus de choix d’épiceries et centres commerciaux très modernes. On marche, et on marche. Si on le désire, il y a aussi le baht-bus (camionnette équipée de bancs dans sa boîte), très efficace et économique, qui fait les grandes artères. Intéressant quand on a les bras chargés ;)

À Pattaya, il y a peu à visiter… on est allés
- au Sanctuaire de la Vérité (très joli immense monument de 7 étages je crois, tout sculpté en bois),

- à un festival de feux d’artifices (dont le Canada était l’un des invités),
- et dans un (faux) marché flottant (trappe touristique qui a perdu son lustre - sans doute à cause de la pandémie - et sans intérêt).

Je me promets d’aller visiter le jardin botanique un moment donné, et de retourner voir le grand Bouddha sur la montagne. À suivre.
Noël approche… Ici on fera comme on a l’habitude, soit… rien du tout 😆
On se paiera peut-être une bonne bouffe. J’ai d’ailleurs découvert un resto japonais qui servent sur un convoyeur. J’avais beaucoup apprécié cette formule à Tokyo. On verra bien.

Already a month since we left Dorval!
We are, as expected, in the city of Pattaya, a very large Thai city by the sea, very pleasant.
Many tourists, a lot of Russians, and others from this corner (all seem to speak the same language). The condo where we live seems to me almost full of them. At first "not very friendly". By dint of seeing us every day, even yesterday I got 1st smiles. Who knows, maybe in 4 months, I will make the best friends in the world... although I doubt it, I have tenacious prejudices...
We really like our condo. We feel in luxury! 😆 Apart from the internet, which is uneven, we are in a comfortable studio, private terrace, swimming pool, gym upstairs. We will remember the address! It's just a little far from the shops. Moreover, you have to walk 45 minutes to go to the first real grocery store (note that there are still several convenience stores all around, as well as several restaurants - formal and itinerant). For the remote grocery store, it's okay, it gives us another pretext to move. A little further, there is even more choice of very modern grocery stores and shopping centers. We walk, and we walk. If desired, there is also the baht-bus (truck equipped with benches in its box), very efficient and economical, which makes the main arteries. Interesting when you have your arms loaded ;)
In Pattaya, there is little to visit... we went
- at the Shrine of Truth (very pretty huge monument of 7 floors I think, all carved in wood),
- at a fireworks festival (of which Canada was one of the guests),
- and in a (false) floating market (tourist hit that has lost its luster - probably because of the pandemic - so without interest).
I promise myself to go visit the botanical garden at some point, and go back to see the great Buddha on the mountain. To be continued.
Christmas is approaching... Here we will do as we are used to, either... nothing at all 😆
We may pay for a good meal… I discovered a Japanese restaurant that serves on a conveyor. I really enjoyed this formula in Tokyo. We'll see.
